Where does the money go?

Duke Energy gives 100 percent of our customers’ contributions to NC GreenPower, a nonprofit organization, which uses the funds to purchase carbon offsets. This monthly donation, in the amount of your choice, is added to your Duke Energy power bill.

As of April 30, 2010, Carolinas’ customers purchased more than 5,100 carbon offsets, which balanced the impact of almost 2.6 million pounds of carbon dioxide. That’s like taking 200 cars off the road for one year.

And because NC GreenPower is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, your donation is deductible to the full extent allowed by law. For your convenience, the contribution you specify will be added to your electric bill every month. The carbon offset line item on your power bill serves as your receipt each month.
