How much does a carbon offset cost and what is the CO₂ benefit?

For just $4, each offset balances the effect of 1,000* pounds of carbon dioxide (CO₂) on the atmosphere. For Carolinas residents, 1,000 pounds of CO₂ is equivalent to 1,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of energy use. The average Duke Energy residential customer in the Carolinas uses 1,000 kWh of energy per month. So for $4 per month (or one carbon offset), you could offset your home’s monthly energy use and carbon emissions.
