What are the effects of greenhouse gases?

Carbon dioxide (CO₂) is one example of a greenhouse gas. Most everything we do – driving, flying, heating and cooling our homes – emits CO₂ into the atmosphere. The release of too many greenhouse gases is associated with global climate change by trapping heat and amplifying the earth’s natural greenhouse effect.
